WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader
Upgrades can give you boosts in specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by +3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.
The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as valuable for the latter due to the requirement to roll a perfect version.
Recycle Points
The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. However, the item used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create the enchantments.
You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks, to keep your equipment up-to-date.
The cost of upgrading will be based on the current level of the item being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than buying new equipment from other sources. For instance, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points while buying a similar item from another player will cost 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are items that can be used to improve the quality of weapons tools, armor, and other items. They can be purchased by players from NPCs of item upgraders in a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor. button, which will show a preview of the item when it is upgraded if the player has sufficient materials.
The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item and the current item level and the weapon's price is higher than bracers or gloves, for example. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with some new features added. After an upgrade has been completed to a certain item level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This applies even if those items come from another set of equipment.
The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain achievement milestones.
Crests
When upgrading gear in WoW players have a variety of choices. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific upgrades to the level of an item. Crests are a crucial component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

Once a piece of gear reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible level on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.
It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they only have one use. For instance, it's best to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the top gear you have available and keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to create. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character which will only be able to benefit from the account-wide discount when all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
